UCAD is a leading University in West Africa and one of the oldest in the continent. With 117 laboratories and more than 4500 students. UCAD has a diversity of colleges, schools and departments (6 Faculties, 16 High Schools, 9 institutes) such as medicine, political and law sciences, economics, science and technology, arts and human sciences, engineering etc. Also UCAD is very active on and encourages international collaboration. More than 115 international agreements have been signed by UCAD.
The “Laboratoire de Physique de l’Atmosphère et de l’Océan” S. F. (LPAO-SF) is mainly active in atmospheric, ocean and climate physical sciences, but is involved increasingly in climate impacts on health, agriculture and hydrology. There are 6 senior scientists and around 20 PhD students. Each year 6 students prepare their Master degree inside the Laboratory. LPAO-SF has strong collaboration with foreign laboratories in France, USA, UK, Spain and other African universities and has played an important leadership role in networking African climate scientists and oceanographers, hosting several international scientific conferences such as WAMAP (1999), the 1st International AMMA scientific conference (2005), the 2nd AMMA- 2050 annual Assembly and the ASPIRE training.
